Canby Wood

This was my second pair of Canby in the natural wood frame. The first pair was a little more than a handful of years ago and they were not fortified with the carbon sheeting nor were the quality control measures where they are today. That said, after deciding to purchase an updated pair in the Redwood Burl I was surprised to find the shape of the eye pieces changed with a more flat top of brow line. The original Canby pieces were much more rounded on top of the brow line. After coming back to the site and looking at the depictions of the product on line, I can kind of see that flattening but is slightly under marketed as it doesn't become noticeable until they are in hand. Both pair were purchased with the polarized lenses and imho neither are exceptionally good viewing lenses. The new pair is listed as a G15 Polarized tint scale which was surprisingly very lightly tinted and can easily see through the lens to my own eyes and face when looking in a mirror. This gives them the feeling of being a transition corrective lens instead of a light shading sunglass. The mixture of the grey lens base and the light tint make for a semi grey smoked look from the outside in and just feels slightly off-putting. One final note was the angle of the ear pieces in relation to the lenses. The original pair eye / ear pieces were angled so that the bottom of the lens angled back toward the wearers face slightly. The new pair eye / ear piece angle feels opposite and just simply wears as if the lenses are angling away from the face which causes the illusion of looking up and out as if wearing a set of bifocal corrective lenses, like you're saying, 'Whaaat? while trying to focus on someone' while wearing them. The implementation of the carbon sheeting along with the highly improved stability and robustness of the frames are very well accepted as are the spring hinges, which they have provided since the beginning, and the tolerances of uniformity and quality control are also very well recognized and provide a uniform, equal, even, level product. For example, when they are set down on a level surface all of the same parts of the frame touch the surface they are sat upon on both the left and right parts of the frame. Imho, the more rounded eye piece shape at the brow is hands down more preferable an aesthetic and a different lens all around would be preferable. The Redwood Burl is a beautiful deep reddish brown on this pair and if you've never worn a natural wood nose piece set of glasses, you will be in for a nice surprise.

Great pair of sunglasses. Fits my face perfectly, incredible lenses. I love these shades. I’ve had shwood glasses for at least 8 years. Only bought the new ones because my old ones were just too beat up. Love these and will continue to wear them.

I learned of Shwoodshop products thanks to an ad in Ski magazine nearly two decades ago (circa 2008). The first edition product had a durability issue, but the designer at Shwoodshop solved the problem with what appears to be metal (aluminum?) inserts in the frame and temple pieces. I know they are quite durable now, after a particularly embarrassing face-plant while skiiing at Colorado's Mary Jane mountain. Unlike my pride, the woodies emerged from the mishap unscathed. I shall remain an Shwoodshop customer as long as they keep pumping the Canby style out.

I love these sunglasses. They are beautifully crafted sunglasses. The surface is smooth. I love the red color the redwood burl creates. These are truly beautiful sunglasses that I would recommend to anyone

I like how light they feel while still being a quality product. The lenses are good too though I would have liked the G15 to have been an option
