Frequently asked questions

Answers about shipping, returns, lenses, warranty, and care.

Orders & Shipping

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping within the U.S. is free on orders over $99. International orders under $300 ship for a flat $30 via FedEx International, and international orders over $300 ship free. International orders may also be subject to import duties and taxes, which we are unable to cover.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Sunglasses typically ship within 1–5 business days (Mon–Fri). Rx eyewear (ordered through Lensabl) ships in 10–15 business days (Mon–Fri) because of the additional time needed to create and fit your custom prescription lenses. Once your order ships, delivery typically takes 2–5 days within the U.S. and 3–8 days internationally.

Do you offer expedited shipping?

Yes. Within the U.S., we offer 2-Day Air and Overnight shipping. (Expedited orders must be placed by 11a.m. PST on Fridays to qualify. No orders are shipped on weekends and U.S. Federal Holidays.) International orders ship via FedEx International, which is already an expedited service. If an item in your order is back-ordered, our customer service team will contact you to make appropriate arrangements.

How can I track my order?

You can track your order at any time here. Once your order ships, you will receive an email containing your tracking number. If you have not received a shipping confirmation email and it has been more than 5 business days (sunglasses) or 10 business days (Rx) since you placed your order, please email us at info@shwoodshop.com and we will find out what is going on.

Can I update the shipping address on my order?

We can often help if your order has not yet shipped. Please contact customer service at info@shwoodshop.com and include your order number.

Can I upgrade the shipping speed on an order I have already placed?

We can often help if your order has not yet shipped. Please contact customer service at info@shwoodshop.com and include your order number.

My package was lost or stolen. What should I do?

If you added Free Returns & Package Protection to your order, please submit a claim through our returns portal. If you did not add Package Protection, please email us at info@shwoodshop.com for additional review.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship to many countries worldwide, though there are a few we are unable to ship to at this time.

Who pays for international import taxes?

International orders may be subject to import duties and taxes when the package arrives in the destination country. The customer is responsible for any customs charges. These charges are set by customs, so Shwood has no control over them and no way of knowing what they will be. Shwood is not responsible for any actions taken by customs or the chosen delivery service.

Returns & Exchanges

What is your return policy?

We try to keep returns as simple as possible. As long as your return meets the guidelines below, it should be no problem at all. All sale items are final sale and are not eligible for return. Our policy differs for sun and Rx eyewear:

Sunglasses (non-Rx)

  • Items must be in brand new condition, with original packaging and proof of purchase.
  • Returns must be initiated within 30 days of the order delivery date.
  • Orders shipped to international addresses must contact customer service (info@shwoodshop.com) to initiate a return.

Can I return a gift?

Do you offer international returns?

Please contact info@shwoodshop.com to discuss your return. The customer is responsible for international return shipping costs, and duties and import taxes are non-refundable.

Do you offer exchanges?

We do not currently offer exchanges.

I received the wrong or damaged product. What should I do?

We're sorry to hear that. Please contact customer service at info@shwoodshop.com so we can help.

Product & Care

Where are your products made?

Shwood is owned and operated out of Portland, OR. Our design, partial manufacturing, finishing, picking/packing, shipping, and customer service are all based in our Portland warehouse, though we work with several other countries to source materials. When production does not happen in our own warehouse, we work exclusively with factory partners who share our values of treating workers well and minimizing environmental impact.

Our wood, metal, and stabilized models are currently produced in the U.S., with hardware components sourced from Germany. Our premium acetate frames are made in Sabae City, Japan, or in Italy, and the CAMP collection is manufactured with a partner factory in China.

Do you use sustainable materials?

Yes! We take great pride in purchasing our wood from authorized and supervised plantations across the globe. Our cellulose acetate is crafted from recycled wood pulp to minimize our ecological footprint and our CAMP frames are crafted from a sustainable bioplastic, free from phthalates and forever chemicals and resulting in a reduced environmental impact as compared to petroleum-based plastics.

How should I take care of my Shwood glasses?

Our wood frames are treated with Shwood's secret blend of non-allergenic, organic waxes and oils and sealed with a light shellac finish. This protective coating helps the wood keep the moisture balance it needs to prevent drying and cracking, and it helps repel water. We recommend re-applying the coating whenever your glasses begin to look lighter or feel dry. Regular application helps protect against most cracks and significantly improves the look and durability of the wood. Recommended coatings include beeswax, lip balm, butcher block oil, or walnut oil.

For daily care, treat your Shwood eyewear as “wearable art” and keep it in a safe place. Do not store your glasses in a pocket or backpack or hang them from your shirt. When you're not wearing them, keep them in a hard case or other safe place.

Do your wood glasses float?

Each pair of Shwood sunglasses is unique, and wood density and buoyancy vary from pair to pair, so we cannot guarantee that all Shwood glasses will float.

Are Shwood glasses waterproof?

Thanks to our proprietary finishing techniques, Shwood glasses are water-resistant and will not be affected by sweat or small amounts of water. Excessive water exposure, including (but not limited to) submersion, may cause glasses to warp.

Will my glasses look exactly like the photo?

No two pieces of wood are identical, so no two pairs of Shwood wooden glasses will be exactly alike. Product photos on our website should be used as a guide to what a product will resemble, not as an exact representation. Minor differences are to be expected, as slight variations are inherent to our handcrafted manufacturing process. Our one-by-one construction also means every pair gets individual attention to detail and quality assurance before it leaves the wood shop.

What sizes are your glasses? How do I find the best fit for a smaller or larger head?

Use the “Filter +” tool on our main glasses landing pages to sort frames by size and other criteria. For precise measurements, scroll below the photos on each product page to find the sizing dimensions diagram.

The best way to choose the perfect pair is to try on different styles before you buy. To find a retailer near you, visit our retailer finder.

Do you offer custom orders or custom sizing?

Sorry, not at this time. Our manufacturing process does not allow for custom orders, including custom sizing, wood grain, and lens requests. What you see on our site is what is available.

What are the differences between lens types?

The chart below compares our lens types. Please note that lenses made of nylon apply only to our ACTV sunglasses line.

What is the difference between regular and polarized lenses?

All of our sun lenses offer 100% UVA/UVB protection. Polarized lenses add glare reduction on top of that, which you'll notice when sunlight reflects off horizontal surfaces such as the hood of your car, the street, or water. Polarized lenses offer the highest level of safety and comfort.

What are mixed light lenses, such as amber or yellow?

Our polarized mixed light lenses are tinted enough to offer sun protection, but not so dark that you need to take them off when you move into the shade (think walking beneath a forest canopy, or fishing in the early morning or late evening). They offer 100% UVA/UVB protection.

Warranty & Repairs

What is Shwood's warranty policy, and what should I do if I'm having an issue with my glasses?

We stand by the quality of our products. All Shwood sunglass and Rx frames are warrantied against manufacturing defects for one full year. Apparel, accessories, and other non-eyewear goods are not covered by the warranty. If your glasses have a manufacturing defect, we will repair or replace them at no cost.

We're sorry if you're having an issue. To get started, please complete our warranty request form, and our customer service team will respond as soon as possible.

Do you offer repairs?

We offer a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects, and we can often offer a paid repair when damage falls outside of warranty coverage (depending on the type of damage and parts availability). To get started, please take a couple of minutes to complete our warranty/repair form so we have the information we need to assess your repair.

Do you offer lens replacements?

Yes, we offer a lens replacement service for sun lenses. Please contact customer service at info@shwoodshop.com to get started.

Rx Lenses

Do you offer prescription (Rx) lenses?

We currently partner with Lensabl to offer Rx versions of our Grateful Dead and Smokey Bear collections. We are unable to offer Rx assistance for pairs outside of those collections, but nearly all of our frames can be taken to an optical shop to be re-lensed with your prescription.

You can order select CAMP frames with Rx lenses through Lensabl here.

Can all of your frames be made into Rx glasses?

Nearly all of our frames can be taken to an optical shop to be re-lensed with your prescription. The only exceptions are our ACTV and Pendleton frame lines, which are designed to hold only the lenses they come with.

Please do not try to put prescription lenses into your Shwood frames yourself. They may break, and we will not be able to offer warranty service on them. We recommend taking your frames to a local optometrist to have them properly fitted with Rx lenses.

How can I get an update on my Lensabl Rx order?

Please contact Lensabl customer care.

What information do I need to purchase prescription eyeglasses?

You will need a valid, non-expired prescription or your doctor's contact information. You will also need your pupillary distance (PD), which is not always noted on prescriptions. Your doctor should have it on file, and your local optical shop can measure it for you, usually for a small fee. You can also measure it yourself (see “How do I measure my PD?”).

How do I measure my PD?

PD stands for pupillary distance, the distance between your pupils in millimeters. It is required to make eyeglasses. If your prescription doesn't list it, you can measure it yourself with a millimeter ruler:

  • Rest the ruler across the bridge of your nose, just in front of your eyes. Look straight ahead and line up the 0 mm mark with the center of one pupil.
  • Read the ruler in a mirror, or have someone at your height read it for you.
  • The mark that lands in the center of your other pupil is your PD.
  • Repeat these steps 2–3 times to make sure your result is accurate.
